Grows on wide range of soils. One of the fastest growing conifers easily averaging more than 1.5 feet/year. One of the unique characteristics is that it looses its needles annually (deciduous) and yet produces a seed cone. Wood used mainly for pulp and also for posts, poles, ties. Wood very appealing, but not used as an ornamental.
